The Metro is not only one of the biggest infrastructures in Madrid used everyday by thousands of people, but also an image of progress and modernity, but what is really interesting about the Metro is that even its importance it remains invisible underground.
There is a model of Puerta del Sol Station made in 1949 that shows for instance what we usually don´t see. In this model buildings are floting on the surface over a topography of hills and tunnels ready to be discovered.
Just as it shown in this model the new Metro Headquarters inverts this double image to find a space in between what is visible and what we don´t see. The architecture becomes a magical space in the middle of the city that confront the architecture that is visible with an unexpected landscape underground.
